Wike Initiates Abuja Master Plan Review with Indigenous Input

The Abuja Original Inhabitant Youth Empowerment Organisation (AOIYEO) praised Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for initiating a comprehensive review of the 1979 Abuja Master Plan. AOIYEO commended Wike for appointing Richard Yunana Dauda, an indigenous son of the FCT and the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), as chairman of the Abuja Master Plan Review Committee.
In a statement by executive director Isaac David, AOIYEO described the review as a necessary step to address current realities, including population growth and infrastructure development, and to reposition Abuja as a world-class smart city. The organization appreciated Wike's commitment to inclusivity by including indigenous people in the review process, allowing them to contribute ideas for improving Abuja.
AOIYEO noted that the original 1979 plan did not adequately represent many original inhabitant communities and called for the establishment of an Abuja Original Inhabitant Community Development Policy and Integration Framework as part of the new master plan.
