Nigerian Students Protest in Abuja Over Unpaid Scholarships

Nigerian students studying abroad under the BEA scholarship program staged a protest in Abuja due to the Federal Government's failure to pay their allowances for 16 months. The students receive a monthly allowance of $500 for living expenses, which was recently slashed to $220 per student per month until 2024.

The protest, organized by the BEA Parent Forum and led by Mathew Abang, highlighted the financial hardships faced by students and warned of the risks if the government continues to delay payments. The Federal Ministry of Finance has been urged to fully fund the scholarship program to support Nigerian students studying in partner countries like Russia, China, Hungary, and Morocco.
