Dr Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu Leads Cancer Awareness Walk

The 12th edition of Walk Away Cancer took place on Saturday in Abuja, themed “One Walk, One Fight,” marking the conclusion of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The event, organized by the Medicaid Cancer Foundation and led by Dr Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, attracted participants from various backgrounds.
Dr Shinkafi-Bagudu, who is the founder of the Medicaid Cancer Foundation, former First Lady of Kebbi State, and President of the Union for International Cancer Control, emphasized the challenges of late diagnosis and high treatment costs in Nigeria. The 5km walk began at Monoliza Park in Area 11, Garki, and included testimonies from cancer survivors, goodwill messages, and public health activities.
Participants accessed free health services such as clinical breast examinations and HPV vaccinations for young girls. The campaign aimed to encourage preventive health measures and early medical attention, following a solidarity visit to cancer patients at the National Hospital in Abuja on October 30.
