Abure Appeals Supreme Court Ruling, Offers Free LP Forms

Julius Abure, the factional chairman of the Labour Party, confirmed on Monday that he has filed an appeal with the Supreme Court to challenge a court ruling that upheld Nnadi Usman's leadership of the party. Abure described the ruling as unacceptable and vowed to contest it at the apex court.

Amidst this legal battle, he announced that the Labour Party would fully participate in the 2027 general elections and would issue free nomination forms to aspirants, which would be available online. The party's governorship and state assembly primaries are scheduled for May 27 and May 29, 2026, respectively.

Abure's announcement comes amid renewed tensions within the party, with claims of a split and rival factions. He criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for failing to recognize the legitimate leadership of the party and accused it of exacerbating internal divisions.

Additionally, Abure faced backlash from party members in Abia State, who warned against obtaining nomination forms from him, labeling them as worthless.
