Abure Challenges Court Ruling on Labour Party Leadership

Julius Abure, the faction chairman of the Labour Party, rejected the appeal court's ruling that affirmed Nenadi Usman as the party chair. On Tuesday, Abure described the judgment as unacceptable and vowed to challenge it in the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

He stated that the court's decision did not align with existing legal precedents and insisted that the leadership issue within the party is an internal matter beyond judicial interference. Abure emphasized that the court failed to properly consider the validity of Usman's leadership, which he claims is contrary to the party's constitution.

The appeal court's ruling, which dismissed Abure's appeal as unconvincing and lacking legal foundation, marked a significant setback for his faction. This legal battle intensified after the Independent National Electoral Commission recognized Usman's leadership, replacing Abure's name in official records.

Abure's decision to approach the Supreme Court indicates a protracted struggle for control of the Labour Party ahead of future electoral contests.
