Umar Sani Criticizes Court's Nullification of PDP Ibadan Convention

Umar Sani, a chieftain of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), reacted strongly to the Federal High Court's nullification of the party's national convention in Ibadan. He accused the court of abuse of power and judicial overreach.

The judgment, delivered by Justice Uch Agomoh, was criticized for going beyond the immediate dispute within the PDP. Sani highlighted the deeper concerns about the perceived vulnerability of the Federal High Court to external influences.

The court's ruling was based on a legal caretaker committee issue that was not directly related to the convention. Despite the absence of counterclaims or ancillary relief, the court's decision compelled INEC to list a specific faction led by Turaki, which was seen as exceeding the scope of the relief sought.

This case bore the hallmarks of an abuse of the court process, according to Sani. The situation echoed a previous case involving Justice Joyc Abdulmalik, where a similar relief-seeking approach was taken.

Sani firmly rejected the court's actions and criticized the judgment's implications for the party's internal administration.
