PDP's Umar Sani Clarifies Appeal Court Ruling on Convention

Umar Sani, a chieftain of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), addressed the recent court appeal ruling regarding the party's national convention in an interview with Trust TV. He clarified that the Appeal Court did not nullify the convention, contrary to some interpretations.

The court upheld the judgment of a lower court, which had issued conditions for the convention to proceed. Sani emphasized that the judgment did not state that the convention could not be held.

He noted that there was no direct order from the court to conduct congresses in 14 states, and he mentioned that the party would send a notice to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to hold the convention. Sani expressed confidence in the party's legal position, indicating that they believe the matter will not require intervention from the Supreme Court, as it pertains to internal leadership disputes within the party.
