Nigerian Court Nullifies PDP National Convention in Ibadan, Declares Caretaker Committee Legitimate

The Federal High Court in Ibadan, presided over by Justice Uch Agomoh, nullified the PDP National Convention held in the city on November 15 and 16, 2025. The court recognized a caretaker committee led by Moham Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the legitimate leadership pending the conduct of a valid national convention.

The faction of the PDP led by Kabiru Turaki had filed a suit seeking recognition of the convention they held on November 15, 2025, as valid. The court found the convention conducted in Ibadan to be in flagrant disobedience of two existing court judgments and declared it null and void.

The judgment further mandated the PDP to operate under the caretaker committee until a proper and lawful national convention is held. In a reaction to the judgment, counsel to the PDP caretaker committee, Chief Ferdinand Orbih, described the ruling as a boost to Nigeria's democracy, emphasizing the importance of upholding the rule of law over political expediency.

This decision follows a crisis within the PDP and a contentious national election convention in Ibadan, despite a previous court order from Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja suspending the convention.
