Achi Advocates for Legislative Cooperation in Africa

On Friday, Hon. Patrick Achi, the President of the National Assembly of Côte d’Ivoire, advocated for stronger legislative cooperation among African parliaments during a courtesy visit to the Secretariat of the Conference of Speakers and Presidents of African Legislatures (CoSPAL) in Abuja. Achi is in Nigeria to participate in the Gender and Social Inclusion Summit 2026 (GS-26) and is set to deliver the keynote address.

His discussions with CoSPAL Secretary-General Ambassador Dapo Oyewole focused on enhancing relations between Côte d’Ivoire’s National Assembly and CoSPAL, as well as improving collaboration among African legislatures. Achi, who took office in January 2026, reaffirmed Côte d’Ivoire’s commitment to CoSPAL, recognizing its vital role in African legislative cooperation.

The meeting also addressed the need for effective parliamentary diplomacy to tackle continental challenges and considered opportunities for capacity-building programs and gender-responsive legislative processes.
