Audit Professionals Urged to Enhance Competence in Nigeria

The Audit Committee Institute Nigeria (ACIN) called on audit professionals to strengthen their competencies to enhance investor confidence in Nigeria's financial market. This call was made during the 2026 Audit Committee Conference held in Lagos, where the theme focused on the importance of governance and oversight in the audit profession.

Christian Ekeigw, the chairman of ACIN, highlighted that the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) tools is crucial for safeguarding shareholder trust and improving data analysis speed. Goodluck Obi, a partner and head of audit at KPMG West Africa, discussed the role of public auditors in ensuring strong oversight and compliance with statutory regulations.

He warned that failure to adopt adequate technology could introduce risks and undermine the profession's integrity. The conference aimed to address the challenges posed by AI and the need for the audit profession to meet societal expectations.
