GPF Aims for Unity in Adamawa's 2027 Governorship Race

The Gongola Peoples Forum (GPF) is preparing for the 2027 Adamawa governorship elections, aiming to unify various indigenous ethnic groups within the state. The forum, led by Engr.

Marku Natina Gundiri, emphasizes grassroots mobilization over financial inducements, asserting that it can produce the next governor without spending money. The GPF's agenda focuses on cultural unity and addressing historical marginalization among indigenous groups.

Significant support comes from influential figures, including Lt. Gen.

Haladu Hananiya and several former governors and senators. A notable cultural event in Yola in December 2025 celebrated the creation of seven new chiefdoms, marking a step towards balanced representation for indigenous communities.

The GPF claims to represent 90% of the non-Fulani population in Adamawa, which includes various ethnic groups primarily engaged in agriculture. With a projected population of approximately 4.9 million and a voter registration of around 2,196,566 for the 2023 elections, the GPF is poised to exert considerable influence across the state's 21 local government areas.
