Adamawa, UNICEF Train Health Responders on Cholera

The Adamawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), has completed a three-day training program for frontline health responders focused on cholera and other disease preparedness and response. This training, supported by the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), involved participants from all primary healthcare facilities in Yola North Local Government Area, identified as the most vulnerable area in Adamawa State for cholera outbreaks.

Mr Patrick Akor from the UNICEF Bauchi field office stated that while no cholera cases have been reported this year, the area faced significant challenges last year due to its geographical location. Dr James Vasimu Jacob, Director of Disease Control and Infection at the Adamawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, emphasized that this training is part of proactive measures to equip local health workers to manage potential outbreaks, especially during seasons when diseases are prevalent due to flooding.

Participants included staff from various healthcare centers, including the Police and Army.
