Adamawa, UNICEF Train Health Workers on Cholera Prevention

The Adamawa State Government, in partnership with the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) and with funding from the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), conducted a training workshop for frontline health workers on cholera prevention. Participants were selected from various primary health centers, particularly in Yola North and other flood-prone communities, to prepare them for potential cholera outbreaks.

James Vusumu, the Director of Diseases Control and Immunisation at the Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (ADSPHCDA), stated that the workshop was a proactive measure to address possible outbreaks, noting that past cholera outbreaks were often seasonal, particularly during the rainy season. Patrick Akor, a UNICEF Health Officer from the Bauchi field office, emphasized the importance of building the capacity of health workers for readiness against cholera outbreaks.

He confirmed that there were currently no reported cases of cholera in the state, and Yola North was identified as a key beneficiary of the training due to its vulnerability to flooding.
