Adamawa State Launches Workshop for Risk Assessment

Adamawa State commenced a 5-day multi-hazard risk assessment workshop on Saturday, aimed at preventing disease outbreaks and floods. The workshop, attended by state health officials, stakeholders from the NCDC, and UNICEF representatives, is designed to identify and prioritize public health threats.

Dr. Egh Ab, a health specialist from UNICEF Nigeria, stated that the initiative will help the state map hazards that occur over time and determine the urgent response required to protect citizens.

The assessment will produce a document guiding early predictive actions against risks affecting the population, including cholera, measles, and floods. Kadabiyu Jone, an epidemiologist in Adamawa State, confirmed that the goal is to create a state-specific document that will inform appropriate responses to mitigate unnecessary deaths.

The workshop involves multiple sectors, including the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency and the Ministry of Water Resources, and aims to provide a clear view of existing risks in the region, which is at high risk due to its proximity to Cameroon and cross-border movements.
