Atiku Abubakar Welcomes Court Ruling for ADC's Registration

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar expressed his approval of the Court of Appeal's judgment that overturned a Federal High Court order aimed at deregistering the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties. In a statement from his media office on Tuesday, Atiku described the ruling as a reaffirmation of the rule of law and a landmark judgment that upholds constitutional democracy in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He congratulated the justices for their commitment to justice and noted that the ruling, along with a previous decision by Justice Liman of the Federal High Court affirming the election of the Senator David Mark-led ADC executive, clears the way for the party's participation in future elections. Atiku emphasized that the appellate court found the earlier ruling by Justice Peter Lifu to be a nullity due to a subsisting stay of proceedings and noted that the respondents lacked legal standing.

He asserted that the judgment validated ADC's legal status and protected Nigeria's democratic framework.
