Atiku Abubakar Welcomes Court Ruling for ADC in 2027

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), welcomed the Court of Appeal's judgment affirming the party's status, which clears the way for its participation in the 2027 general elections. The Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal overturned a previous Federal High Court ruling that had ordered the deregistration of the ADC and three other political parties.

Atiku described the appellate court's decision as a significant victory for democracy, reinforcing free political participation and constitutional governance. He commended the justices for their commitment to justice and expressed confidence that the ruling would enhance public trust in the judiciary.

The court ruled that the earlier judgment was invalid due to an existing order and that the plaintiffs lacked legal standing. Atiku emphasized that the judgment was a triumph for Nigeria's democracy and urged political actors to refrain from using the courts to eliminate opponents, advocating for electoral contests to be decided by voters.
