ADC Supports NBA on Court Jurisdiction Over Party Disputes

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) issued a statement on Saturday, supporting the Nigerian Bar Association's (NBA) position that courts do not have jurisdiction over internal party disputes. The ADC described the ongoing leadership dispute within the party as a valid concern and criticized attempts to manipulate the judiciary for political purposes.

The statement, attributed to Bolaji Abdullahi, emphasized that legal actions challenging party leadership are an abuse of court processes and violate the Electoral Act. The ADC called for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to maintain neutrality and avoid legitimizing unlawful judicial interference.

The statement highlighted that any attempts to exploit the courts to create confusion around party leadership are fundamentally flawed and cannot stand. The ADC commended the NBA for its courageous stance in reaffirming the rule of law and warned that continued disregard for legal provisions undermines democratic institutions in Nigeria.
