Court Dismisses Kachikwu's Suit Against ADC Leadership

On October 3, 2023, Justice Joyc Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed a suit filed by Dumebi Kachikwu and four other challengers against the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which is led by Senator David Mark. The court determined that it lacked jurisdiction over internal party affairs, emphasizing that membership and leadership issues within political parties should be resolved internally rather than through judicial intervention.

Kachikwu's suit sought to challenge the leadership structure of the ADC and included claims against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and ADC officials, including Ralph Nwosu and Rauf Aregbesola. Following the ruling, ADC's national public secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, welcomed the judgment as a victory for the rule of law and urged Nigerian political leaders to engage actively in the political process.

The ADC reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining democratic processes and resisting any attempts to destabilize the party.
