ADC Faction Protests INEC for Leadership Recognition

On Thursday, a faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by Nafiu Gomb protested at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Abuja, demanding formal recognition of their leadership. Gomb, accompanied by Kogi State lawmaker Leke Abejide and hundreds of supporters, accused the rival faction led by David Mark of attempting to hijack the party's leadership.

The protesters insisted that due process must be followed to resolve the leadership dispute and urged INEC to act in accordance with the ADC constitution, which outlines eligibility requirements for leadership positions. Gomb emphasized that the ADC should not be overtaken by "moneybags" who threaten democracy.

Moham Sahad, the ADC Director of Youth Mobilization, commended INEC for complying with a court order and urged further affirmation of Gomb's leadership. INEC's National Commissioner, Abdullahi Abdu Zuru, assured the protesters that their concerns would be reviewed.

This protest followed a rival demonstration by Mark's faction, highlighting the deepening rift within the ADC ahead of future electoral contests.
