Protesters Demand INEC Recognize ADC Chairman Bala

On a Wednesday protest in Abuja, demonstrators insisted on the recognition of Nafiu Bala as the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The protest, led by Bala, called for INEC to comply with a court of appeal judgment delivered on March 12, 2026, which directed parties to maintain the status quo.

Bala emphasized the importance of adhering to judicial decisions, warning that INEC's failure to comply could undermine the rule of law and public trust in democratic institutions. The protesters chanted slogans urging respect for the constitution and warned of potential legal consequences for INEC if they continued to disregard the court's ruling.

Abdullahi Ahm, a demonstrator, highlighted the need to protect Nigeria's democratic integrity. INEC's Assistant Director of Security, Moham Hamma, noted that the current leadership was engaged in official duties in Lagos, indicating that the chairman was not present to address the protesters.
