African Democrat Congress Condemns Nigerian Senate's Rejection of Electronic Transmission of Election Results

The African Democrat Congress (ADC) has strongly condemned the Nigerian Senate's rejection of the mandatory electronic transmission of election results. The Senate proposed amendments to the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, specifically Clause 70 subsection 3, which aimed to make electronic transmission of results compulsory.

The Senate, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, chose to maintain the current provisions of the Electoral Act. The ADC accused the Senate of attempting to weaken democracy and pave the way for electoral manipulation.

The ADC particularly criticized the rejection of electronic transmission of results, stating that it undermines voter protection and signals a move by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to manipulate future elections. The ADC also accused the Senate of deliberately tampering with laws to create opportunities for malpractice and logistical challenges for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The ADC called on the public to resist such actions and hold the ruling party, APC, accountable for eroding trust in the electoral system.
