ICPC Report on Phantom Council Faces Criticism

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), led by Chairman Musa Adamu Aliyu, submitted an interim report to President Bola Tinubu on a purported council involving Adeniyi Adeyemi as Director-General. The report concluded that Adeyemi's appointment letter was forged and that the council was never legally established.

Aliyu stated that Adeyemi was not appointed by the federal government or any authority. However, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), through its National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, criticized the ICPC for not explaining how a fictitious agency managed to secure federal office space and civil servants, as well as a N1.3 billion budget allocation for 2026.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria Nwoko Uwemedimo also questioned the findings, stating that the report raised more questions than it answered and criticized the lack of identification of implicated officials. He emphasized that the report acknowledged complicity among public servants without naming them.
