ADC Legislators Challenge Tinubu on Democracy Threats

Legislators from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have raised alarms regarding perceived threats to Nigeria's democracy, attributing these concerns to actions taken by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. During a press conference in Abuja, ADC representative Nnenna Ukeje articulated the group's worries about the potential undermining of opposition political parties and judicial independence.

The ADC criticized remarks made by Tinubu, which they interpreted as dismissive of their recent national convention. They also pointed to comments from Tinubu's Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, suggesting attempts to influence internal disputes within the ADC.

The ADC emphasized the importance of safeguarding democratic institutions and warned against executive interference in judicial processes. They specifically referenced ongoing legal matters involving the Supreme Court and Federal High Court, expressing concerns about the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) handling of internal party issues.
