ADC Seeks Police Investigation into Alleged Detention in Kebbi

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally petitioned the Nigerian Police Force and the Police Service Commission (PSC) concerning the alleged illegal detention of its members and supporters in Kebbi State. The ADC is also appealing to Amnesty International for an independent examination of the arrests.

This concern was raised during a press conference in Abuja, organized by the Kebbi ADC Caucus in the National Assembly, which included its chairman, Safiyanu Bala. Senator Garba Maidoki, representing Kebbi South, stated that while the ADC does not oppose legitimate police investigations, the circumstances of the arrests have raised significant concerns regarding police powers and citizens' rights.

Maidoki emphasized that political affiliation should not be equated with criminality and called for lawful procedures in investigating any allegations against party members. He announced plans for the ADC to formally petition the Police Service Commission and the Inspector-General of Police regarding the conduct of involved officers and to investigate claims of political interference and improper conduct.
