Kaduna Police Use Tear Gas on ADC Supporters Blocking Road

On Wednesday, the Kaduna State Police Command intervened with tear gas to disperse a crowd of African Democratic Congress (ADC) supporters who allegedly blocked a major road, causing significant traffic congestion and a breakdown of public order. In a statement issued on Thursday by Police Public Relations Officer DSP Mansir Hassan, the Command clarified that the incident was not an attempt to hinder political gatherings or restrict citizens' rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly.

The police had received a distress call regarding unknown individuals attempting to enter Murtala Square without authorization. After advising the group on the need for proper authorization, the police withdrew.

However, the ADC supporters later obstructed WAFF road, leading to confrontations with motorists and cyclists. To restore order, the police used minimal force, including tear gas.

The Command urged the public to disregard misleading narratives about the incident and emphasized that peaceful assembly should not infringe on public safety or the rights of others.
