ADC Raises Alarm Over INEC's Voter Revalidation Plan

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed serious concerns regarding a purported plan by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a nationwide voter revalidation exercise less than ten months before the 2027 general elections. In a statement issued by the party's spokesperson, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC called for urgent clarification from INEC regarding an internal memo that suggests this exercise.

Abdullahi cautioned that such a plan could create unnecessary barriers for already registered voters, potentially discouraging voter turnout and exacerbating existing voter apathy in Nigeria. He emphasized that the proposed exercise could disenfranchise millions of Nigerians, particularly those unable to travel to designated centers for revalidation.

The ADC argues that the introduction of this exercise could inadvertently favor the ruling party and undermine public confidence in the electoral process. The party urged INEC to abandon the plan and instead commit to conducting a credible and transparent electoral process.
