ADC Demands INEC Chairman Amupitan's Resignation

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for the immediate resignation of Joash Amupitan, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), due to concerns regarding his perceived bias and integrity in overseeing the electoral process. This demand follows controversies surrounding Amupitan's past comments that allegedly suggest political alignment with the All Progressives Congress (APC), raising alarms among opposition figures about the neutrality of the electoral body ahead of future elections.

ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi stated that Amupitan's conduct has fallen short of the standards expected for someone entrusted with conducting free and fair elections. The party has threatened to renew and escalate civil disobedience actions until Amupitan steps down, emphasizing that his continued position undermines the integrity of Nigeria's electoral system.

The ADC also expressed concerns about attempts to alter digital records related to electoral matters, describing these actions as a calculated assault on the truth and a manipulation of records that could jeopardize democracy.
