ADC Questions Tinubu on EFCC Court Order Claim

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has responded to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's directive to reverse the freezing of the Osun State Government's accounts. In a statement issued on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC expressed concerns over the President's assertion that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) acted based on a court order.

The ADC suggested that President Tinubu was either misinformed or deliberately misrepresenting the situation. They highlighted that the EFCC had never claimed to have obtained a court order in its public statements regarding the freezing of the accounts.

Instead, the Commission defended its actions based on its statutory powers and what it described as its "preventive mandate." The ADC's statement also indicated that the President's admission of ordering the EFCC to discontinue the action undermined the agency's independence and suggested that the Presidency was directing the operational conduct of anti-graft agencies.
