ADC Questions Tinubu's Claims on EFCC Court Order

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has responded to President Bola Tinubu's directive for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to reverse the freezing of Osun State Government accounts. In a statement issued on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC challenged Tinubu's assertion that the EFCC's actions were based on a court order, labeling the claim as "curious." The ADC pointed out that the EFCC had previously justified its actions as part of its statutory powers without mentioning any court order.

The party expressed concern that Tinubu's directive undermines the claimed independence of anti-corruption agencies, questioning the extent of executive influence over such bodies. The ADC also noted that the decision to halt the account freeze was likely a response to public criticism, suggesting it was not a voluntary action.

Furthermore, the ADC urged Tinubu to apply similar fairness by directing the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to cease opposing the bail application of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
