ADC to Proceed with Congresses Despite INEC's Stance

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced its intention to hold congresses and a national convention despite the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) refusal to acknowledge its leadership. During an interview at the ADC national public secretariat, Abdullahi, the party's national chairman, stated that the party submitted a mandatory 21-day notice to INEC, which he confirmed had been acknowledged.

Abdullahi emphasized that the ADC is not suspended from its internal processes and remains committed to its planned congress and convention. He expressed concerns about threats to Nigeria's democracy, cautioning against moves that could restrict political competition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Abdullahi remarked on INEC's actions, suggesting they aim to create a fait accompli regarding the upcoming elections, leaving Nigerians with no choice. He reiterated that the ADC would continue with its congress and convention plans regardless of INEC's recognition status.
