Adelabu Addresses Gas Shortage Amid Power Crisis

Adebayo Adelabu, the Minister of Power, has made a commitment to tackle the persistent gas shortage that is severely impacting Nigeria's electricity supply. The country is currently facing a deepening electricity crisis, with thermal power plants, which account for the bulk of Nigeria's installed capacity, operating at only 68% due to gas supply constraints and payment disputes within the value chain.

Adelabu's government has begun implementing targeted measures to stabilize gas availability for power plants, expressing confidence that these interventions will gradually improve supply for households and businesses. He highlighted the need for public support and cooperation with the government's policies, linking individual discipline to national development, especially during Ramadan.

The minister noted that the current economic challenges, including those in the power sector, are part of a broader reform agenda initiated by President Bola Tinubu aimed at addressing systemic bottlenecks. Adelabu emphasized that improvements in the gas power industry are essential for unlocking capacity and reducing grid instability, which has long plagued Nigeria's power sector.
