Adebayo Adelabu Resigns as Minister to Pursue Oyo Governorship

Adebayo Adelabu formally tendered his resignation as Minister of Power on April 22, 2026, with the resignation taking effect on April 30, 2026. This decision allows him to concentrate on his gubernatorial aspirations for Oyo State, a pursuit he has been interested in since 2016.

His resignation aligns with the provisions of the amended Electoral Act 2026, which prevents political office holders from contesting elections. In his three-page resignation letter, Adelabu highlighted his achievements during his tenure, including the implementation of the Electricity Act 2023, improvements in the power sector, and efforts to enhance regulatory oversight.

He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve and emphasized the need for stronger coordination in the power sector. Adelabu's resignation follows a meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he briefed the President on his political ambitions.
