Adelabu Urges IBEDC to Speed Up Free Meter Distribution

Adebayo Adelabu, the Minister of State for Power, visited the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) headquarters in Ibadan and tasked the company with expediting the distribution of free prepaid meters to consumers within its catchment area. He highlighted that IBEDC has only distributed 16,300 out of the 59,000 meters supplied by the federal government, resulting in a low percentage of distribution within its franchise area.

Adelabu emphasized that improving the distribution of these meters is crucial for enhancing revenue targets and ensuring accurate billing for electricity consumption. He encouraged IBEDC to leverage regulatory opportunities to manage the distribution process effectively and address consumer challenges.

Additionally, he advised prioritizing the deployment of available meters to improve customer confidence, reduce losses, and strengthen the sustainability of the power sector. The Minister also noted the necessity for IBEDC to enhance its service delivery to prevent complaints from consumers in its franchise area.
