IBEDC Addresses Power Supply Crisis in Osun State

On Thursday, the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) met with representatives from civil society organizations, security agencies, and community leaders in Osogbo, Osun State, to discuss the persistent poor power supply. Daniel Adugbo, a representative of IBEDC, explained that irregular power supply is due to constraints in gas production affecting electricity generation.

He expressed hope for improvements to enable better service delivery. Ifeanyi Ikeji, the IBEDC region head, acknowledged the impact of insufficient energy supply on the company's income and the pressure on energy infrastructure.

Wole Oladapo from Nigerian Good Governance urged IBEDC to collaborate with relevant government agencies to combat energy theft, which has exacerbated tensions. Meanwhile, 40 communities in Osogbo accused IBEDC of intimidation and misinformation, claiming that power supply had worsened despite a peaceful protest and a seven-day ultimatum for improvement.

The situation deteriorated further, with residents receiving less than nine hours of electricity over the ultimatum period.
