Niger Delta Group Urges Tinubu to Address Tensions

The Niger Delta Advocates for Good Governance has formally written to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, expressing concern over escalating tensions in the Niger Delta region. The group emphasizes the need for urgent engagement with critical stakeholders to prevent a resurgence of militancy, particularly in light of unresolved issues surrounding pipeline surveillance contracts valued at ₦2.7 trillion.

The letter highlights the importance of dialogue and the role of influential leaders, including Chief Timi Alaibe and Dr. Shola Mese JP, who have previously contributed to peace efforts in the region. The group calls for the establishment of a Presidential Committee for Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution in the Niger Delta to facilitate comprehensive discussions among relevant stakeholders.

Additionally, they urge traditional rulers to exercise restraint in public statements to foster unity and peace, rather than deepening divisions. The letter also addresses misleading statements attributed to HRM Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo Asari regarding the pipeline infrastructure contracts.
