Court Adjourns Inquest into Chimamanda Adichie's Son's Death

The Lagos State High Court, presided over by Justice Aishat Opesanwo, has adjourned the coroner inquest into the death of Master Nkanu Nnamdi Adichie Eseg, the 21-month-old son of renowned author Chimamanda Adichie and Dr. Ivara Eseg, until September 28, 2026.

This decision follows a judicial review application filed by Eurapharma Care Services Nigeria Limited, challenging the coroner's court's authority to continue the inquest. The court granted leave for this review, which questions the jurisdiction of the coroner's court regarding the deceased's body, alleged to have been cremated, thus complicating post-mortem examinations.

The adjournment allows the parties involved to respond adequately to the judicial review application, with the first and third respondents confirming the proposed date. The inquest was initially scheduled for October 8, 2026, but was postponed to accommodate the legal proceedings.
