Adichie Fights Legal Battle Over Son's Death in Lagos

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is involved in a significant legal battle against Euracar Multi-Specialist Hospital in Lagos regarding the death of her 21-month-old son, Nnamdi Adichie Eseg, who passed away on January 7, 2026. Adichie has accused the hospital of deliberately obstructing the coroner's inquest into her son's death.

The inquest, originally scheduled for April 14, 2026, has faced numerous delays, with the next proceedings set for October 8, 2026, due to the hospital's legal challenges. Allegations include the hospital's failure to provide essential oxygen and administering a fatal overdose of the anesthetic propofol, which triggered cardiac arrest.

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria has suspended three senior medical practitioners following a preliminary investigation into the case. The inquest was halted when the hospital's counsel challenged the coroner's jurisdiction, raising significant legal issues.

Despite these hurdles, Adichie and her family remain committed to seeking justice, with four witness statements already filed, including that of her son's father, Dr. Ivara Eseg.
