Professor Iwu Advocates Technology to Combat Insecurity

During the 61st inaugural lecture at Adekunle Ajasin University, Professor Nnaoma Iwu called on the Nigerian government to adopt technology as a means to combat ethnic divisions and insecurity. He warned that Nigeria risks falling behind in global competitiveness if it continues to allow ethnic considerations to influence critical decisions.

Iwu described technology as a potent antidote to insecurity, arguing that it should be utilized to gather intelligence and conduct precise targeting in security operations. He criticized the practice of appointing individuals based on ethnic affiliation rather than competence, advocating for a merit-based approach similar to that in global sports, where skill and talent are prioritized over background.

Iwu's lecture highlighted the need for Nigeria to move beyond traditional roles and become an active driver of technological innovation to prepare for global competition. The lecture was praised by Vice Chancellor Professor Olugbenga Ig and Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor Adebisi Adaramola.
