Advocates Call for Stronger Women's Movement Against GBV

On Tuesday, during a webinar organized by the Women Inform Network (WINET) to commemorate International Women's Day 2026, advocates discussed strategies to curb gender-based violence (GBV) in Nigeria. Erélu Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi, co-founder of the Amandla Institute for Policy and Leadership Advancement and former First Lady of Ekiti State, emphasized the necessity of building organized movements to prevent GBV.
She outlined a tripartite strategy for advocacy, focusing on seven critical pillars: access to justice, response coordination, education, learning, and solidarity. Adeleye-Fayemi stated that achieving meaningful results requires resilient organizations committed to feminist values and stronger collaboration among stakeholders, including the National Council of Women Societies.
Ijeoma Udensi highlighted that social media should not replace traditional organizational methods but can significantly expand the movement's reach and visibility.
