CEWHIN Launches Plan to Combat Violence Against Disabled Women

The Centre for Women Health and Information (CEWHIN) launched a Technical Action Sustain Plan (TASP) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, aimed at ending violence against women with disabilities. The event was attended by various stakeholders, including the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) and the Justice Development and Peace Commission (JDPC).

Julia Afachung, a senior program officer at CEWHIN, emphasized that women with disabilities face heightened vulnerability to sexual violence due to systemic discrimination and stigma. The TASP is designed to provide a structured framework for collaboration among sectors to address barriers and strengthen coordinated actions.

Prof. Helen Bodund highlighted the importance of implementing the TASP as a practical roadmap rather than a mere policy document.

Mr. Motunrayo Oniyid from the Ogun State Ministry of Justice noted that the current disability law is under review, with amendments being proposed to enhance legal protections for women with disabilities.
