AFC, UEFA, CONCACAF Call for Review of FIFA's Proposal

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC), UEFA, and CONCACAF have jointly requested an independent review of FIFA's abandoned proposal to sell a stake in a new company aimed at commercializing World Cup rights. This demand was articulated in a letter issued on Monday, following FIFA's decision to withdraw the proposal due to significant opposition from football stakeholders.

The letter, signed by AFC President Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani, UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin, and their respective general secretaries, criticized the proposal as a "profound failure of judgment" and a "fundamental breach of trust." They contended that FIFA's characterization of the situation as a communication failure was misleading, asserting that the proposal lacked proper consultation and scrutiny. The proposal, which aimed to sell approximately 20% of the new company for about $4.2 billion, was met with strong resistance, leading to its abandonment.

The confederations emphasized that any review should be conducted by an independent third party, not FIFA itself.
