AfCFTA Lauds Nigeria Customs' Digital Innovations

Wamkele Mene, the Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), commended the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for its advanced indigenous technology aimed at transforming customs administration across Africa. During his visit to the NCS Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, on a Sunday, Mene described the NCS's technology-driven reforms as a practical solution to longstanding trade and revenue challenges faced by many African nations, which still depend on manual customs processes.

He emphasized that Nigeria’s technological advancements could serve as a sustainable model for improving customs operations continent-wide. Mene acknowledged the NCS's data centre as a strategic asset that could assist countries lacking similar resources.

In response, Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, expressed gratitude for the recognition and reiterated the NCS's commitment to advancing technology that aligns with Africa's trade realities. He affirmed the NCS's dedication to collaborating with AfCFTA and other customs administrations to enhance digital integration and facilitate legitimate trade.
