Tinubu Commends AfriTrade for Customs Modernization Deal

President Tinubu praised AfriTrade CMP Limited, a subsidiary of Bergmans, for its initiative to modernize customs operations across Africa through a deal under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The project aims to enhance cargo tracking and border management.

In a statement from Mr Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu emphasized that this development showcases Nigeria's ability to create homegrown solutions for the African market. AfCFTA Secretary-General Wamkele Mene visited Abuja to witness the agreement and the operations of the Nigeria Customs Service.

He described Nigeria's Unified Customs Management System, B’Odogwu, as a model for Africa, noting that non-African companies had proposed similar services but AfCFTA opted for an African solution. Senator Jibrin Isah, who led a Senate Committee on Customs visit, stated that the committee members would advocate for the system.

B’Odogwu, piloted in October 2024, is integral to Nigeria's customs modernization and is being integrated with the National Single Window launched in March 2026.
