Tinubu Applauds Nigeria's Customs Model by AfCFTA

President Bola Tinubu commended the recognition of Nigeria’s customs modernization program by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the selection of a subsidiary of Bergmans Security Consultant and Supplies Limited for a 20-year, multi-billion-dollar AfCFTA Customs Modernisation Project. The project, to be executed by AfriTrade CMP Limited, aims to enhance customs processes, cargo tracking, border management, and trade-data exchange among African nations.

Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria's homegrown solutions can serve as a model for the continent, asserting that Nigerian institutions and businesses can contribute significantly to Africa's single market. He acknowledged the efforts of Bergmans, AfriTrade CMP Limited, Trade Modernisation Project Limited, the Nigeria Customs Service, and CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

AfCFTA Secretary-General Wamkele Mene previously visited the Nigeria Customs Service headquarters, praising Nigeria's Unified Customs Management System, B’Odogwu, as a model for Africa. The program, which began piloting in October 2024, is central to Nigeria's customs modernization efforts.
