Eguavoen Rejects Easy Draw Claims for Super Eagles in AFCON 2027

Austin Eguavoen, the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation, addressed the media in Abuja on Thursday, dismissing claims that the Super Eagles received an easy draw for the AFCON 2027 qualifiers. Nigeria has been placed in a group with co-hosts Tanzania, Madagascar, and Guinea-Bissau, following the draw held at the Egyptian Football Association headquarters in Cairo.

Eguavoen emphasized the need for a serious approach, recalling the challenges faced against Guinea-Bissau during the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon, where they had a tough match. He warned against underestimating Madagascar and Tanzania, noting their improvements and competitiveness.

The tournament is scheduled to take place from June 19 to July 17, 2027, marking the first AFCON to be hosted by three countries. Eguavoen currently combines his role as Technical Director with duties as a senior advisor to Super Eagles head coach José Peseiro.
