Troost-Ekong to Host AFCON 2027 Qualification Draw

William Troost-Ekong, the captain of Nigeria's national football team, the Super Eagles, is set to take center stage on Tuesday when he joins African football legends to conduct the draw for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed that the draw will take place on Monday.

Alongside Troost-Ekong, other notable figures such as Max Alain Gradel, Essam El Hadari, and Tresor Mputu will assist in the draw process. This draw will outline Nigeria's qualification pathway for the tournament, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

The tournament will feature 48 teams divided into 12 groups, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the finals. The Super Eagles, who are three-time African champions, are expected to secure a strong start in their qualification journey, which will consist of six matches played across three FIFA international windows in 2026 and 2027.

The 2027 AFCON will mark the tournament's return to East Africa for the first time since 1976.
