Eguavoen Confident Super Eagles Will Qualify for AFCON 2027

Austin Eguavoen, the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), addressed the challenges facing the Super Eagles in their qualification campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Nigeria has been drawn into a tough group alongside co-hosts Tanzania, Madagascar, and Guinea-Bissau during the qualification draw held at the Egyptian Football Association headquarters in Cairo.

Eguavoen cautioned against underestimating their opponents, emphasizing that the group will not be easy. He recalled Nigeria's previous encounters with Guinea-Bissau, noting that they posed a significant challenge.

Eguavoen also highlighted the competitiveness of Madagascar and Tanzania, stating that both teams have improved and can trouble larger teams. Despite these challenges, he expressed confidence in the Super Eagles' experience and quality, believing they will qualify for the tournament scheduled from June 19 to July 17, 2027.

This AFCON will be historically significant as it will be jointly hosted by three countries for the first time.
