African Leaders Urge Security Cooperation Against Terrorism

At the 19th Africa Security Watch Conference and Awards held at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre in Banjul, The Gambia, leaders and security chiefs from Africa, including Gambian President Adama Barrow, Nigerian Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, and Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu, called for stronger regional cooperation to address the continent's escalating security challenges. They highlighted that terrorism, organized crime, cybercrime, and violent extremism require coordinated responses, as no single country can tackle these threats alone.

Abdoulie Sanyang, the Gambian Minister of Interior, noted that the Sahel region is becoming the epicenter of global terrorism and urged for enhanced intelligence sharing and joint operations among African nations. Major General TE Gagariga, representing the Nigerian Chief of Army Staff, stressed the importance of community engagement and collaboration among security institutions, stating that insecurity transcends borders and must be addressed collectively.
