Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau Strengthen Military Ties

Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau have deepened their military cooperation to address regional security challenges. This development was announced during a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the 163rd Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2026 in Port Harcourt.

Nigerian Army Chief Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu and Guinea-Bissau Armed Forces Chief Major General Toma Djass emphasized the importance of closer collaboration among West African armed forces to effectively combat terrorism and transnational crime. They reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing defense collaboration and building institutional partnerships to sustain operational capacity in the region.

Lieutenant General Shaibu noted Nigeria's experience in counter-terrorism operations and its role as a key contributor to regional security. Major General Djass commended the Nigerian Army for its leadership in promoting peace and security and expressed Guinea-Bissau's readiness to expand cooperation through knowledge sharing and joint military activities.
