ECOWAS Signs Agreement for African Atlantic Gas Pipeline

At the ECOWAS summit in Freetown, Sierra Leone, member states signed a historic intergovernmental agreement (IGA) for the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline (AAGP). This project, which is designed to unlock West Africa's vast natural gas resources, will connect major demand centers and establish a strategic development corridor linking West Africa, the Sahel, Morocco, and Europe.

The AAGP is expected to deliver 30 billion cubic meters of gas per year, with Nigeria and Morocco as sovereign backers. The pipeline will span nearly 6,900 kilometers along the West African Atlantic coast and is jointly led by NNPC Ltd and Morocco's Office National des Hydrocarbures et des Mines (ONHYM).

The agreement reflects the commitment of Nigeria and Morocco to advance the project, which aims to enhance energy access, drive industrialization, and create new energy corridors. The project has already achieved significant milestones, including the completion of front-end engineering design and environmental studies.
